In 1994, the Lord called Robert and Anna Wurtz to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Saints to people who are in Nursing Homes. These are Christians from all denominational backgrounds who have served God all their lives, and now they are unable to go to church. They include former pastors, pastors' wives, deacons, chaplains, Sunday School teachers, outreach ministers, etc. Our formal service title "Lord's Fellowship" was coined by the late Jim Riddle who served in Nursing Home Ministry before eventually moving to Maywood Terrace Living Center.
We are blessed to have brothers and sisters come out to assist us in this work who attend local churches in the kansas City area. Sometimes we are able to minister to people who never went to church and may have been in deep sin all their lives. Occasionally we will meet a backslider who has been estranged from Christ for decades.
Our message is the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it was once delivered to the Saints. We preach Christ and Him crucified and encourage repentance from sin and love for our fellow man. We sing the older hymns and chorus's that the people grew up singing. Residents are encouraged to participate by singing a special song, sharing a scripture passage, testifying, or whatever they feel led to do.
